Major Golf Tournaments

There are four golf majors throughout the year which attract the most betting activity, namely the US Masters, the US Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship. With a field of high class golfers it is certainly not guaranteed that the favourite will lift the trophy at the end of the tournament. The odds are generally good value when looking at an each way bet, since there are so many golfers in the first round. However check with various bookmakers first, since on the larger tournaments the placing’s for each way bets can vary, so choose a bookie offering the highest number of places, often paying out to the top 8 places.

Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup is played every two years and the next Ryder Cup, the 39th is being held at the Medinha Golf and Country Club in Medinha, Illinois, USA. The Ryder Cup is played as a team event with America taking on Europe. The teams are made up of the 5 leading players on The Ryder Cup European Points List at the conclusion of a major Championship and then the next 5 leading players at the end of the next designated championships. Each team captain has two wildcards to choose two further players, making a total of 12 players in each team. Over the three days the play alternates from eight foursome matches on the first day, to eight four ball matches on the second day, and twelve singles matches on the final day which often decides the outright winner.
